What's in a Name?

Lynn Davidson Lynn Davidson

When deciding what name to call my company, I wanted a name to live up to, a name which inspired me every time I said it, and reminded me what the coaching and development business is about. That's when I came up with HiLife.

The word HiLife is a sum of all the words I believe are key to the coaching, development and therapy work I do and what this business represents.

Holistic Inspirational Learning + Intuitive Facilitation = Evolution

Holistic. My approach to someone's development needs to be as holistic as possible and utilise a wide range of tools and techniques. The more ways I have to tackle a particular issue the faster that issue can be resolved.

Inspirational. An effective coach is both inspiring and knowledgeable. Therefore I really need to 'walk the talk'. There is a world of difference in being able to inspire people as opposed to motivating them.

Learning. This is the main focus of the business. In helping people to reach their potential and solve their issues I will use range different and varied methods of learning, all of which should be relevant to both the individual and the situation. Human beings are learning machines, its what we were designed to do from the moment we were born.

Intuition. This vital skill is born not made. It's about my ability to interpret information using gut feel and emotional intelligence. Intuition is so important when working with people as individuals because it marks the difference between global processes and solutions and individualised ones.

Facilitation. My ability to draw information, emotions and thoughts from others using high level questioning enables individuals to work towards focussed and measured goals.

Evolution. Development is all about Evolution: helping someone to reach their full potential and to reach work and life goals. Because all the component parts of HiLife are in place the evolution process can't fail to happen. When it happens it will be stimulating, enriching and enjoyable.

A Personal Perspective on Coaching

In recent years coaching in business has become an incredibly popular way of developing key staff. I think the reason it is so effective and well received is because individuals in the work place so rarely get time to spend concentrating on themselves, or considering how and why they do things. From a personal perspective life coaching is now moving in the same direction. People want to learn positive ways of moving their lives forward and reaching personal potential.

In coaching it is important that the effectiveness of the coach is measured by the success of those he or she coaches. On a personal level it means that I constantly have to hone, refine and reflect on my own skills and continued development, which I believe is both vital and incredibly healthy.

Coaching is also a journey of awareness for both the coach and learner, where they explore areas of potential not yet visited. It highlights what is known as the 'ah ha' moments for the learner, where high levels of awareness come from increased understanding.

Coaching should be a highly motivated and encouraging process for the learner, where the only measurement and judgement comes from within themselves. The coach is the guide throughout the journey who uses the skills of listening, questioning, observing and challenging. It also provides learners with a range of tools and techniques that they can apply themselves.

I believe that coaching is important and I've personally seen the results it can produce. I like the fact that the effectiveness of the coach is also measured and evaluated by the learner. This helps the entire process to remain fresh and on track. I also like the fact that it is individualised and changes in style to suit the learner in hand. Mostly I like the fact that I am privileged to be part of such a key developmental stage in someone's life.

I hope that in exploring this website you begin to understand the values of coaching, and look on it as a way to focus the development of yourself and your team.

I hope that in participating in coaching, you feel as passionate about its unique value as I do.
